The Dorado Property Story: When Growth and Tired Methods Don’t See Eye to Eye

Dorado Property, an established and rapidly growing investment house, was navigating several challenges in its organisational development efforts. They were looking for a more effective way to foster leadership development, create a culture of continuous performance improvement, and support employee wellbeing. Dorado were experiencing their existing appraisal systems as outdated, cumbersome, and failing to meet their evolving needs.

Additionally, the leadership team recognised the importance of developing a coaching mindset across the organisation but weren’t sure how to go about it.

Learning Partner Engaged

Dorado partnered with Oasis People & Culture to co-create a multi-faceted leadership development approach focusing on key people in the organisation. Specifically in view was the provision of ongoing development support for Directors, embedding fresh development and performance practices into the organisational culture, cultivating relational and leadership maturity, and the offering of wellbeing and development support more widely in the business.

As specialist practitioners in the Enneagram, Oasis facilitated assessments across the team to provide valuable insights into individual motivations and team dynamics. Oasis’s signature Leader as Coach program was also run in-house, providing a series of workshops designed for directors and managers to develop coaching skills. These workshops were supported by action-learning periods between sessions to apply new learning and to engage in staff development coaching conversations. Additionally, individual coaching sessions enhanced the group learning experience, ensuring a deeper integration of workshop insights into personal and professional practices.

How It Really Does Change Things

For Dorado, this investment into their people yielded four enduring and transformative outcomes:

  • Leadership Reimagined: The leadership team adopted more of a coaching-centric approach to conversations. Instead of merely offering solutions, leaders were equipped to engage in deeper, more insightful conversations with their teams, empowering people to identify and take ownership of solutions.

  • More Connected Staff: Dorado saw significant improvements in staff engagement and retention. By creating a culture of open dialogue and vulnerability, employees have felt more connected and supported.

  • Enhanced Performance: Oasis People and Culture’s 4Boxes development and performance software enabled greater focus on alignment and growth, ensuring the alignment of individual contribution with Dorado’s purpose and values. This resulted in crucial conversations that may not have otherwise occurred, changing the shape of Dorado’s team structures for the better while improving performance and wellbeing across the organisation.

  • Increased Agility: Dorado Property gained a competitive edge by embracing a development and performance approach that did not rely on mere ratings. This subtle yet significant shift, toward a more collaborative and conversational review process, positioned them for greater success through increased staff engagement and retention, ultimately contributing to business growth.
