Tracc Civil Hits a Special Kind of 50!

During the month of March 2024, Tracc Civil, a leading second tier civil construction business in WA, quietly surpassed a people development milestone.  It has enrolled its 50th employee in Oasis People and Culture’s LeaderNET program.

Tracc Civil is a leading second tier civil construction business in Western Australia, delivering key projects in land subdivision, bulk earthworks, road construction and services installation.  With approximately 200 staff, Tracc has strategically prioritised leadership development and learning with Oasis as a cornerstone of its business.

There was significant division and silos with no cross pollination of ideas across the departments.

A few years back during a difficult time, Tracc culture and capability was negatively impacted by downturns and layoffs.  Frank Janssen (General Manager) describes the culture at that time as being manipulative and political and in need of change. In addition to this, there was significant division and silos with no cross pollination of ideas across the departments.  In the reset of Tracc’s culture, the senior leadership named a commitment to develop a culture of engagement and openness.

Why Oasis?

Tracc had been developing a strong long-term partnering relationship with Clint and the Oasis team, who understand the business and its culture.  Unique tools including the Enneagram personality assessment and other distinctive approaches have become common place within Tracc Culture.

The Solution

Over the last 5 years, Tracc has invited approximately 8 or 9 people staff from diverse roles across the business to come together as a learning cohort to commit to the 10-month journey  which includes monthly half-day workshops, one-on-one coaching and on-the-job activities.  In March 2024, Oasis began working with Tracc’s sixth cohort of participants and it’s 50th participant.

The Result (Quotes from Interview with Frank Janssen)

  • Increased communication and awareness of the wider business…

“It was a way for us to hear from one another and make others aware…this is what accounts do, estimators, projects, yar etc.  It was a way of working together.  It helps people see their department wasn’t Tracc - Tracc is everything else as well.

  • Shared and common language…

“If people in the company have done the training, it’s easy to communicate.”

  • Improved interaction skills…

“We had someone just the other day, who had done LeaderNET three years earlier, in a situation of conflict, and he says, “I remembered what Clint was saying years ago, and realised I was dealing with this person in the wrong manner. I said the same thing in a different manner and got what we needed.”

  • Positive cultural and leadership impact…

“It’s not a 200% increase, it’s a 1,000% increase!  Some things are immeasurable with relationships and understanding.  We’re no longer sitting there trying to translate each other.  It’s made our company a lot easier to work in.

LeaderNET can be delivered in either in-house or public formats.  In-house programs allows you to shape the learning to specific needs and issues and can be beneficial and unifying for a team learning together over an extended period.  Public programs offer participants the opportunity to engage with a diverse range of voices and new perspectives outside of their own day-to-day workplace culture.
