About Michael
Michael is a highly skilled leadership development professional with 35+ years experience unlocking leadership as a manager, action-learning program designer, facilitator, coach and keynote speaker across 12 countries (in Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region). His experience includes private, public, and not-for-profit organisations across diverse sectors including: resources, health, education, finance, infrastructure, agriculture and community development.
He is widely regarded for the blend of intelligent care, respectful challenge and supportive accountability for action he brings to his individual coaching and group engagements. He is passionate about unlocking courageous, wholehearted leadership in himself and others: bringing our “best” selves to the families, communities and organisations we live and work amongst.
Michael was first introduced to innovative action learning and coaching methodologies in the mid-1980s in the federal health department as an internal Learning & Development (L&D) manager: initiatives that integrated individual, team and organisation development. He then took this skillset to Nepal, where from 1989-95 as the L&D Manager for the United Mission to Nepal (UMN), he adopted an action-learning and coaching approach to develop a twenty-strong L&D team and a broader coaching culture amongst UMN’s 2000 strong workforce.
He returned to self-employed consulting based in Perth at the end of 1995, continuing to specialise in leadership coaching, coaching skills training and action-learning based leadership development work across the Asia Pacific region (including Australia), joining the Oasis team in 2019, working with a range of clients.
A current multi-year “Developing a Coaching-Learning Culture” engagement at John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School, is indicative of the trust developed through Michael’s approach. This initiative has emerged in natural stages from an initial block of 1-1 coaching with JSR’s Principal, to a Leader as Coach program for the whole Executive Team before extending a similar program to the next level of leadership (Middle Leaders) in the school while providing ongoing support to the Executive Team. A third stage to further deepen and unlock leadership at all levels of the school community is currently being co-designed with JSR’s executive team.
Michael has been married to Lynden for over 45 years. They share three adult children and five grandchildren they enjoy nurturing and spending time with.
